See the full gallery on Posterous While the MFA students are all taking classes for their residency in our Writing Popular Fiction program, alums and graduates from the program return to the campus at Seton Hill University each June to run their own continuing workshop series.  Today they descended on campus...they're an awesome, lively bunch -- here are a few shots from their arrival. Their "In Your Write Mind" workshop is an annual treat.  This Friday they're co-hosting the launch party for Many Genres, One Craft: Lessons in Writing Popular Fiction, a book that features instructional advice on the craft…

Photos from first thesis presentations at SHU’s Writing Popular Fiction residency #SHUWPF

Here are some shots from Genevieve Eldredge, Elle Stone, and Martina Tate's thesis defenses in Seton Hill's Writing Popular Fiction program last night. In our program, students write and revise a novel over two years, workign one-on-one with two different "mentors" (aka advisors) and a mix of critique groups online all the way...culminating in a reading and defense in their final residency.  They talk about their writing process, and answer questions from an audience of peers and teachers about their choices and career plans.  Congrats to everyone for prenting their completed novels -- and best wishes in acquiring a publisher!…

Students in our MFA residency at #SetonHill U. – First group to receive the iPad2 #SHUWPF

The entering class of the MFA in Writing Popular Fiction received a free iPad2 from Seton Hill University as part of our campus' "Griffin Technology Advantage" program.  I believe they are the first group to get these devices (last year everyone on campus received a free first-generation ipad). I taught a class in "Critiquing and Clarity" right after they got the devices, and when I asked them to pose for a photo they all immediately took pictures of their faces with the iPad cameras and posed in these clever ways. A fun group of creative folks!
