Many Genres, Many Awards…and One Great Year for Our Writing Guide!

As the writer's guide I co-edited with Heidi Ruby Miller -- Many Genres, One Craft: Lessons in Writing Popular Fiction -- comes to its first year anniversary, I was happy to learn this morning that it just won another book award. Here are the accolades I know about so far: Winner, "Business: Writing and Publishing" category, 2012 International Book Awards. Winner, "Education/Academic" category, 2012 Next Generation Indie Book Awards. Winner, General Non-Fiction Award. 2011 London Books Festival Award. Listed 5th in "This Year's Ten Most Terrific Writing Books" by The Writer magazine (Dec 2011). Finalist, "Business: Writing and Publishing" category.…

Many Genres authors at Confluence 2011

Speculative fiction authors from our writing guide, Many Genres, One Craft: Lessons in Writing Popular Fiction, were all over the place at the Confluence sf/f/h convention this weekend. Coeditor Heidi Ruby Miller and I hosted a 'literary beer' talk about the book that was a highlight, among other things. Here are some photos from the book signing event. In the photos, the MGOC writers are the ones wearing the buttons: Heidi Ruby Miller, Jason Jack Miller, Lawrence Connolly, Diane Turnshek, and myself. Photos from the HUGE #SHUWPF launch party for MANY GENRES and alumni book signing at Seton Hill U

There was a tremendous turnout for the alumni book signing event at Seton Hill University last night, which featured the launch party for Many Genres, One Craft: Lessons in Writing Popular Fiction with about 30 of the contributors in attendance (sporting buttons so people could locate them and get copies signed). My co-editor, Heidi Ruby Miller, has posted a batch of great shots on her blog, as well. Update, 6.27: The Pittsburgh Tribune Review covered the event. Here's their article about it.

Tonight at 7-9pm at Seton Hill U, we're hosting a large book signing for published alums, faculty and students from our Writing Popular Fiction MFA program.  One highlight is the massive instructional guide, MANY GENRES, ONE CRAFT: Lessons in Writing Popular Fiction, which I co-edited and contributed several articles to.
