Exploring Dark Short Fiction

I’ve been publishing as “Academic Advisor” to the Exploring Dark Short Fiction series of primers, put out by Dark Moon Books. Every title features a horror writer that deserves more attention particularly in the area of the short story, and includes four representative works plus a new short story they produce for the volume. I write brief afterwords to each piece, as well as a longer work of criticism (always entitled “Why [Author’s Name] Matters”) that looks at patterns in the writer’s work and what these tendencies might say about the genre at large. So far authors studied have included: Steve Rasnic Tem, Kaaron Warren, Nisi Shawl and Jeffrey Ford. Upcoming authors include Han Song, Ramsey Campbell and Gemma Files. See the dedicated page at Dark Moon Books for information about all of these primers. They are available in paperback and hardcover as well as ebook, and I think you should consider asking your local library to shelve them!
